Syrians: The Invisible Displaced

One of the poorest and most neglected areas of the city, known as HoÇa, is an authentic ghetto belonging to the district of Fatih, in the well-known ‘Golden Horn’ of Istanbul.

A frame work of streets with completely abandoned buildings, without running water or facilities of any kind, surrounded by rubble and garbage.

These ruins are inhabited by displaced people of Syrian and Kurdish origin, living in extreme conditions of poverty and neglect on the part of the authorities, a few blocks from one of the nerve centers of tourism, (Suleyman Mosque or the Grand Bazaar).
